THE BLACK SWAN (1942) **1/2 The best part was the name of the pirate tavern, I forget but something like "The Swinish Porte." They're all drinking all the time, it's like floating New Orleans. Tyrone Power (a/k/a "Zorro") and Thomas Mitchell have a really good sword fight, Anthony Quinn is the proverbial pirate with an eye patch. Laird Cregar is the baddest pirate of them all, but even he can't stay afloat in the morass of 18th Century British politics. The chemistry between Power and Maureen O'Hara is a bit forced, but they were under a lot of pressure from the War Department to preserve film by getting things done in one take. Taken as a whole it explains perfectly why Keith Richards loves Jamaica.
