BLIND DATE (1958) *1/2 Variation on two guys standing around for a few hours talking about the chick one of 'em was boning. It's supposed to be considerably more, but this is what happens when writers cover things they know nothing about: material witnesses and defendants who allegedly don't know each other according to one of the stories groping each other in front of Scottish detectives in Scotland yard, victims being ID'd without their face uncovered, nauseating socialites in empty affairs that mean so much to demented, arrogant, and not particularly talented young Flemish painters...actually that last part does sound right, doesn't it? It had potential to be a chipper almost sixties film in the opening minutes, takes a stab at being a sensible detective yarn in the middle, makes inessential flirtations at being a mordant love story throughout, and eventually just settles for being over. Relatively unskilled detective novel of the stock where no clues are bothered with-probably because the writer is afraid of giving the game away, with decent acting and production values.
