CARRY ON, CONSTABLE (1960) ** "When Mars and Uranus are in conjunction you're in for a bumpy night." And this, fully seven years before the Marianne Faithfull bust. Tabloid mysticism and gay locker room humour, nothing wrong with any of that. Think of an acoustic Police Academy with smarter lyrics and major chords. Not terribly ambitious, virtually without a plot linking the clever one-liners and entendres, that's part of the charm. At one point a lady is looking for her pussy, Fuzzy. Interesting to think that a collective of mid-20th century sexual ambivalents had so much to do with influencing 21st century California culture...or not. More importantly the Carry On cast laid a lot of the groundwork for the brilliant television series "Are You Being Served?", and the devoutly hapless Mrs. Slocumb ever in search of her lost pussy. Well hell, if you can't find 'em how are we 'sposed to do anything with them. Free the closet!
