CIRCLE OF FRIENDS (1995) *** Fine acting, simple truths and it looks like Ireland. Minnie Driver overcomes marginal tubbiness to snag handsome Chris O'Donnell. In fact her tubbiness is so marginal that she has to keep mentioning so that we know it's part of the plot. She's a fine actress, does all the little things that keep things believable as do he and the rest of the cast. It must have been really weird to be part of a generation that considered Eddie Cochrane radical. The scenes of U of Dublin where the professor keeps telling the Catholic kids about the sexual mores of some utterly amoral island hotentots are pretty good.
