CONSPIRATOR (1949) ** According to this Cold War propaganda the Stalinists were so ornery that their operatives even got in trouble for marrying Elizabeth Taylor. Unfortunately, she demonstrates that she can play down to the level of her co-conspirators, muffing the timing of easy lines, screeching unconvincingly, and generally failing to demonstrate any difference between herself and the herd of thin-waisted starlets. She's so ordinary that it's quite believable when she falls for the mustachioed crustacean Robert Taylor. Of course if the commies don't want their people to marry, who is going to take the reins of the golden age? These and other great questions remain unanswered, though the male Taylor eventually figures out that covert totalitarian fascists are bad, can be dangerous, and lack any measurable personal loyalties. Surprise.
