THE COURT-MARTIAL OF BILLY MITCHELL (1955) **1/2 So during the McCarthy Era there were Americans championing individuality and original thought. Can there possibly be a worse place for an iconoclastic visionary than in the Army? Billy (Gary Cooper) brings his problems upon himself by thinking that he's a military man, and a loyal one, and that all military men should be like him. After the table is hurriedly set he's naturally court martialed and even Elizabeth Montgomery can't bail him out. Maybe the problem is that she tries to use truth and courage, rather than wrinkling her nose. Incidentally, she's married to Jack Lord which brings up the intriguing possibility of supernaturally powered offspring working in Hawaii as detectives. Why can't there ever be a sequel when there's a point to it?
