CROCODILE HUNTER: THE COLLISION COURSE (2002) **1/2 It's a very rare and wonderful thing to see a man doing precisely what he was put on this earth to do. And the unescapable conclusion while watching Steve Irwin's nature show. Feature length, the best parts are admittedly of the same heroically insane and amusing sort you get from the Discovery Channel, but put into a larger nature context (a grown man trying to figure out if a snake will bite him, or wrestling with a crocodile and trying to tie together its mouth). I mean, the psychological mutations of inner sanctum CIA protocol, incredible. Also Steve, as the ruler of all he chooses to rule from all that he surveys: a scholar and disciple of extraordinary specimens, Terri Irwin is the only one he wants to keep close at hand all the time. Beautiful, all the answers you need without a spoken word. The CIA stuff is funny: after setting up the construct that it's really how they act, rather than what they do, that's the problem, he gives the people what they want: CIA rats being attacked by dogs, by spiders, by crocodiles, relegated to cleaning cages at the zoo. Just in case you couldn't figure it out, the closing credits leave another unistakeable clue: part of what Harry was born to do is be on television. It's an important métier, and one rarely given the credit it deserves as so few were born for the role, and now, in an imbalance of nature, there are so many roles to fill. So kick up your feet and pop open a cold one, watch easily with your eyes but leave the storage room to your subconscious open as Steve and Terri, and their loyal doggie, take you through a series of natural habitats, and the unnatural ones that humans create in order to maintain chaos and feelings of embattlement beneath the cosmos' limitless potential for harmonics.
