DARLING LILI (1970) **1/2 Fine Blake Edwards-Julie Andrews as a WWII spy distraction right from the opening scene where she not only keeps the Royal Albert Hall calm, but somehow stops the bombs from falling by singing (kind of like one of the lies Jim Morrison wrote in letters to his parents when he was really doing drugs on the beach in Venice). She looks great, sings great, acts nicely, is definitely not above using of her virtue as a means by which to glean information, and even gets to do a risque' little dance number in her efforts to sabotage the allied war effort. Still, she's so wholesome and innocent that you have to vote for her, who cares who wins the stupid war? Rock Hudson kind of does, when he's not stealing airplanes or chasing Parisian bitches with nicknames associated with deserts. Lance Percival is a nice breath of whiskey air, I've definitely seen that British guy harassing Europeans all over the continent. I don't think it's otherwise based on a true story or anything.
