DAZZLE (1999) ** "Gentle fairies, kind elf men/come join us today..." More uncomplicated eco-fodder for adults who desperately want their children to think that they too believe in fairies. Kids may also like it, as it's neatly presented, Oddkin and Bodkin are funny, and children rarely object when the resolution to an impossible situation is suddenly discovered by a teenager just five minutes this side of the closing curtain. In that five minutes, incidentally and only tangentially related, Mia Sara offers by far the greatest moment of the film in her musical paean to woodcreatures...or is giving anything away too much when there's not all that much to give in the first place? South African Chantelle Stander has a certain fairy sweetness, no question about it, but as in a critique offered by my wife, "How many cleavage shots do you need to see of a fairy?"
