DEATH HUNT (1981) *1/2 Charles Bronson in Death Hunt, think there might be some violence? Charles saves a dog after which his house is surrounded by the other 20 inhabitants of the Yukon circa 1931. For approximately 30 minutes they try to shoot and/or blow him up as he alternately hides on the floor or stands astride the doorway, courageously in the sites of 20 rifles, blowing them away with his sawed-off shotguns. This extended scene climaxes with Bronson emerging from the ruins emulating masturbation with an even larger rifle as his tormentors fall around him. How could this footage not be prominently featured in National Rifle Association fundraising materials? An extended game of hide-and-seek ensues with Bronson racing towards Alaska with his snowshoes on backwards, pursued by airplanes, gold diggers, and a very bad man with occasionally homoerotic intentions. Lee Marvin, once again the alcohol debilitated lawman, is impressed (with Bronson's shoes); but Carl Weathers' graying leaves him looking like something of a black mustachioed Bride of Frankenstein. Angie Dickinson is also in the film, for reasons that can only have to do with the boredom of shooting a film with a cast full of guys in the arctic.
