DUDLEY DO-RIGHT (1999) **1/2 Brendan Fraser's awkward honky charm works very well as a rearviewing mountie, even when he turns into an anti-globalism terrorist in order to reclaim the moral high road. Sublime moments of authentic Native American bird Broadway, and very fun looking dirt bike stunts. Of course there's nothing wrong with a bombed and bleary Eric Idle as spiritual guru, but nothing new there, that had already worked just fine for how many generations? Sarah Jessica Parker is well spent as the belle of a ball where the string quartet plays "Born to be Wild" in the yard while paint-by-numbers artists battle for her favour. Am I the only one who noticed the stark similarity between the flag of the forces of Snidely K. Whiplash and the MIA banners? Or was it a poke of fun at the black-booted UN forces coming across the prairies? Kind of makes me wonder what's really going on in Canada anyway. Way deeper than the cartoon original.
