FEARLESS FRANK (1967) *1/2 Semi-surrealist pseudo-dark "comic book drama." I wish I'd seen this before I spent 45 seconds sharing a Santa Monica elevator with Jon Voight in the summer of '92. Voight is a country bumpkin gone to the city and immediately murdered by gangsters, only to be reborn at the hands of the "good doctor" as a bumpkin in a silver suit that can fly. Naturally this amuses the ladies for a short while, and drives the bad guys into acts of various desperations, but sadly Voight, the real one-not his double role as "False Frank," has an "Achilles head." Power corrupts, and absolute power transforms Fearless Frank into just another guy that wants a "mixed drink" but doesn't know what to order. Though replete with excessive cinematic devices, the plot is woefully underdeveloped, which is probably the single greatest strength of the film. Including Voight's toothy and nasal countrifications.
