ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE (2001) *1/2 I like stuff about Atlantis. I'm not so desperate that I expect to learn anything about Atlantis from a cartoon but I was hoping that they'd kind of catch the spirit of the thing. Which they do, but only very occasionally. The slight bits depicting Atlantean mysticism are cool, if not particularly powerful (which might almost be fair about civilization that couldn't even stay afloat with the other countries). The problem is that most of it is just formula kids movie garbage schlock pasted onto a plot with alleged enough to be barely apparent Atlantis pretensions. Not much. All kinds of expensive "voice talent" for the most part just sinks the characters deeper than the ocean floor (ohmigosh, Michael J. Fox again! Who ever convinced anyone that we want to hear him?), though Don Novello really is as great as you'd expect.
