BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA (2008) ** Viva los Chihuahuas Zapatistas! It strikes me as....funny...that people who have never lived in LA are going to think that the Beverly Hills lifestyle is exaggerated. Um no, as Rage Against the Machine...The Battle of Los Angeles! But this is a different battle, in most part...no less important to the celebrants and involving talking dogs. Now I would say that one of the most obvious moves in Hollywood history is to cast Drew Barrymore's voice in an appealing cartoon role. They did that, it works as brilliantly as you'd hope...and so they either get a lot of credit to doing the brilliant, or very little for masterminding the obvious. The kids love it but there are extended-very extended-parts of this where I wouldn't have been unwilling to fall asleep. But it's also true-and I have to say it in all fairness-that there are really good scenes that come along to bust you right out of that. So it looks at the big picture without saying much about it, but for the target audience that may be the seeds of....oh, you know, global revolution, or at least ending the Bush tax cuts for the already filthy rich or something...
