BIG TOP PEE-WEE (1988) * It's not a very nauseating film. That's its strong point. I don't know what any of them could have possibly been thinking. I'm not a fan, but I've seen Paul Reubens humorous and even witty. Not here. How did Kris Kristofferson end up in this? What could he possibly have been thinking? I mean, it had to be a favor for a friend, this one doesn't have "bold career move" written anywhere near it and there's no way any of these gags could have even looked decent on paper. But Kris does act like he doesn't realize how awful everything around him is, which reinforces my belief that he's a better actor than people give him credit for. After all, he'd been clean and sober for years and he's a very bright man. This, my friends, is a professional fakin' it. I'm usually up for a circus and all but not this time. The whole thing reeks of a not very talented 11 year-old writing himself into corners he can't figure out how to get out off, and then congratulating himself for inventing base magic as if it really does anything or anyone believes it.
