BORN FREE (1966) *1/2 Don't believe all that lion talk, this is a human love story. Dysfunctional, but human. That poor guy must have really loved the Virginia McKenna character, because she's fucking nuts, she's driving me nuts just watching her obsess on...not the needs of the lion, but more how she can be ever more involved with them. Wow, what a nut. Soon she has the family vacations planned around how she can interfere with the lion and....and the taxpayers are paying for this! Where's the game warden? He's not here today, he's trying to teach a lion how to hang out. The animal footage is cool, and it's nice that they like the lion instead of want to shoot her (but aren't they teaching her to get shot by training her to come to the sound of gunfire?), but I have no idea how this film got its reputation for being healthy for or about anything. Pathological fixation, parental transference, housewife boredom run amok on the Serengeti.....ok for psychology students, I guess.
