BUG BUSTER (1998) *1/2 It's about what you would expect when you mix several of "Star Trek's" secondary lights (George Takei, James Doohan) with the doctor from "Love Boat" (Bernie Kopell) and an MTV host (Downtown Julie Brown), and have them hesitantly orbit a variation on a bunch of cinematic clichés in the key of Ed Wood while awaiting the arrival of saviour Randy Quaid. In other words, if you're disinclined towards this sort of thing, stay the hell away! If you're someone who simply must view a wreck of this sort, like me, there will be occasional tidbits to consider or mildly amuse. Plenty of references to better works (i.e., almost everything), but it's more that you're pleased with yourself for recognizing them than the writers for including them. It just doesn't flow naturally, it's more like a computer gunned the thing out in 45 seconds after being ordered to include a stupid teenage love subplot, some suggestions of deviant sex, a wayward preacher, bug monsters, contemptible cops, stressed out and goofy parents, some lines that Katherine Heigl could handle, a mad scientist, a military cartoon.you probably get the idea more than you needed to. Sorry.
