CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS (1996) *** I've no read Rudyard Kipling's side, so I can't tell of any savagery done the tale. It wouldn't be right, either, to say this or that about how much honour they gave the great man though I suspect it's a fair amount of what's due. The only thing I can surely say is that they do their best and it's good enough for me. Oh, sure, yes of course there's the odd moment when you can see a seam in the production or a lad maybe holds his smile a moment too long. It's not the sort of story where that should put you off, you should always be movin' forward along with it. A tv production, they say, but all the actors look not only as they should but behave the same way. Kenny Vadas could have ruined it, he could, bein' in ought but every picture frame. Doesn't do it, clever fellow too, winsome is he. Lost for awhile, but becomes more aware of it than most. And Robert Urich? I'll sail with him any day. He's no coddler, no, but more people want one than need it.
