CASPER (1995) **1/2 I don't remember the comic books being like this...I don't remember them being nearly this good! Treatment of a comic for eight-year olds dressed up for a demographic half a decade older, with abundant nods and winks for their presumably cinema-savvy parents... So it can be done, that's probably worth knowing. Assessments will vary, but I like it best of all when-heading down the homestretch-it starts going off in every which direction like a dog in a butcher shop, it can't figure out which way to turn next so it goes all of them! A little bit of spirituality primer, a little bit of drinking, a little bit of Elvis...to whatever extent those are different things... Christina Ricci has always had a netherworldly thing about her so she's perfect in the middle of it, but the peripheral mixture of Don Novello, Jessica Wesson, Eric Idle, Clint Eastwood (no, really!), Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Pullman, Dan Aykroyd and Mel Gibson is pretty inspired, too.
