CHARLIE'S ANGELS (2000) **1/2 Jaclyn Smith isn't in it, so that's strike one. No Kate Jackson, strike two. Farrah Fawcett is nowhere to be seen; that's like five billion strikes. So the film's struck out more than 300 million times before the opening credits. Fortunately it's an affectionate farce and....the original series was incomparably longer on iconography, but it was never this funny . I mean they just pump it up man, with suits with skits...it's just one silly segment after another....that turn of the century a-music-video-every-ten-minutes to break it up actually works here.... Mötley Crüe gets it pumpin' and Heart and Aerosmith and some other stuff.... They sustain a very high level of humor until they're sure they've got you caught, then they formula out a bit but by then you're willing to humor them. Got some actors standing around, too; for one of those sequences why couldn't they dress Bill Murray, Tim Curry and Crispin Glover up as the angels, and have Drew Barrymore-still-wearing her beard-kick all their asses? That would have been funny for a minute or two. That Cameron Diaz sure can dance, too. The outfits and choreography are so funny, and is there any nut that Crispin can't play? I mean, he must be a clutch bundle of abnormal complexes, and a good thing too. Yea!
