THE CRAWLING HAND (1963) ** Stop it before it kills again!...the..the..severed and possessed astronaut hand!! Aiiieeeeeeeee!. This must have been a pretty good drive-in flick. If you happened to look up during the first part you might contemplate what kind of world this must be when some Hollywood glockenspiel is allowed to tell Sirry Steffen that her character has to be Swedish because Americans aren't interested in Icelandic girls. Then if you looked up during the next part you might see the hand itself committing murder and mayhem. Re-emerging a bit later you would no doubt be astonished to find Rod Lauren red-lining on virtually every human emotion imaginable, yet without credibly expressing any of them. And you might well be so amused that it would delight you that he beat out Burt Reynolds for the part. Eventually, though, it would undoubtedly dawn on you that the film must surely have a climax, and it would seem that a battle of some sort should be in order, and you might suddenly grasp at the possibility of the participants. And there are all these governmental agencies that have information that would help the others but they don't share any of it-that's the dose of realism.
