A DIFFERENT KIND OF CHRISTMAS (1996) * What do you have the right to expect from a movie in which Shelley Long stars in her portrayal of a tough and seasoned city attorney running for mayor, but haboring a dark, dark secret? That her father thinks he's Santa Claus! No, really . Waaal, I'd hoped for it to be even more ridiculous, I'd hoped for major veins or at least arteries of absurdity or even....dare I say it....wasted brilliance. Got none. It splashes around a bit, trying to invoke the passion of a Hallmark Card, but eventually gives up and just flops to and fro like a grounded eel on Quaaludes. No fun in that. It's a film of the calibre that you see Barry Bostwick and think, "You know, he really is too good for this." Barry Bostwick, ladies and gentlemen, curtain call for Barry Boswick and don't forget to pick up your umbrellas on the way out-if you have 'em!, it's still raining outside.
