DOCTOR AT LARGE (1957) ** This must have seemed freewheeling to the point of near anarchy at the time. The depictions of the eccentricities of the upper class most anarchic of all (the camel stuff!), and those are the bits that have aged the best. It's all amusing enough to keep a smile on your face, and positive feelings and hopes for the admirably open to adventure Dirk Bogarde. Freelance doctor, doctor on the loose, pinch doctor, doctor of....there are quite a few ways to look at a thing, but a limited number if you know what I mean. The film looks at situations for all that they're worth, and then some, but who's to say what foible should be taken out or added, really. Back in the day everyone loved it, and they probably weren't yet ready for Monty Python.
