EIGHT BELOW (2006) *** An Antarctic tale of the heroism and nobility of dogs, and how our love for them can help us overcome our own more crass nature? I'm in! Now...some people may have difficulty with the personality development resulting from nearly endless shots of dogs running around in the snow, but even they should enjoy the (somewhat more peripheral) human acting: Paul Walker would appear well positioned for a career as that eco-California taking-care-of-business guy, and Jason Biggs as an East Coast smart-alecky lovable sidekick guy. Bruce Greenwood and Moon Bloodgood are more difficult to call...it's difficult to imagine them thriving in any other role as much as this one, but that may just be because they're so good. Anyway there's a fine Disney tradition of dog movies that effectively pull at the heartstrings, and this is an outstanding addition, to that tradition. Bada-boom!
