ERAGON (2006) ** Should be known as...Blond Harry Potter, Lord of the Fellowship of the Not Ready For Narnia Dragons! Wow-eeee. This fantasy reworking of simple stories and presenting them as big and profound doesn't really work much, for me. I know a lot of people like it. I like Jeremy Irons. He's so good that he can sit there saying this stuff, and it somehow sounds real and important. So you should make sure that he's in the whole film. John Malkovich is good, too-intentionally funny I'm pretty sure-as the bad guy. When he does this shtick it always reminds me of his incredible SNL skit as the foppish French Louis XIV era aristocrat mocked by the moon. Now that was something. Ed Speleers is quite credible in the lead, a cool character for young teenage males to want to hang out with and the dream prom date for the girls the same age. Is there a future in that? Who knows, seems like he's got talent. Speaking of young talent, Joss Stone is the fortune teller. That's cool. But not enough to get this anywhere close to Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe league.
