FLIGHT OF THE REINDEER (2000) ** John-Boy Walton's all grown up, and is a serious academic hell-bent on proving the existence of flying reindeer. Oh stop, c'mon…they're obviously not trying to make a masterpiece, they're just trying to make a nice Christmas movie for people who watch television. And they do that. A little John-Boy here, some flying reindeer, there's Beau Bridges, a nice little family with some difficulties to overcome…it's all very nice. Unfortunately it turns out that John-Boy doesn't obey Santa Claus (and that Santa started out as a thief, but…you know…got better), and there's bound to be some silliness somewhere of a measure most anyone will find insulting. But not me. Well, ok, that's not true. It kind of pisses me off that they pretend it's not John-Boy, but really some actor named Richard Thomas impersonating a fictitious person named Jerry McNeil. …waaal, that's all a bit much to expect anyone to believe, but it's one of those Christmas Magic (there's even a nice esoteric insight snuck in; no, don't look for it or you won't see it) movies so if you can't believe any- and everything good don't blame them, blame yourself.
