GET SMART, AGAIN! (1989) ** I dunno, I kind of would have named it "Get More Smarter" or some variation, but that's a trifle. It's a fine thing to see Don Adams and Barbara Feldon at it again-the years don't appear to have taken much, they're every bit as capable of battling the forces of global evil as…well, ever anyway. And there are several wonderful throwaway lines scattered throughout that demonstrate that the writers have a most excellent sense of how those forces have evolved, since the original tv show (KAOS, for example, has been the victim of a corporate takeover). My own television viewing history being what it is, I was just as enthused to see Bernie Kopell ("Doc" from "The Love Boat") up and about-and in a double role!-wryly fixing things, or confusing them (which serves as fixing most of the time, in matters such as this). I can't say that any of it caught the occasional decidedly not-sublime brilliance of the originals, but if you like such a thing it's well worth seeing such a thing happen…not entirely unlike watching a heavy metal band, now a decade or two on the wrong side of 50 but absolutely refusing to turn it down.
