THE GREEN HORNET (2011) *** I never thought much of those '70s Green Hornet films (they were ok) and the good news is that apparently Michel Gondry didn't either! He directs like Picasso drawing a child for a friend. Whether he's going on to ever greater and constantly greater things, who knows?, but he sure as fuck thinks he is, and I like that. This film has a balance-all French people will forever more hate me, but shouldn't, it's a complement-a balance like good (is there any other kind?) French food. There's action, there's thought, there's mockery, there's self-mockery, there's action, there's Cameron Diaz just so the producers understand it's a teenager male flick. But it's all so cool …watch it with your teenage son. It will, then, make the world better…and that's more often aimed at than done.
