HIGH PLAINS INVADERS (2009) ** In one of the sadly forgotten episodes of history-or was it? conspiracy theorists take note-apparently giant metallic alien bugs invaded a very grey, dreary muddy town in the Wild West, in order to nourish their uranium addiction. The potential for a film is there, obviously, but for reasons that I don't at all understand they play it pretty straight. Not badly, the acting is all convincing except for Sanny Van Heteren as the whiskey-drankin' female bounty hunter, but her forays over the top…while they bring the quality down generally, they do add brief moments of entertainment, and a glimpse into what the film could have been if everyone else would have followed her lead. Not as good , um, artistically, but a helluva lot funnier, which would have been better.
