JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF TIME (1967) * Amateurish acting, juvenile plot, cardboard sets that all look like the same one; there are elements here that could have been worked with. Best of all is when director David L. Hewitt boldly goes where no one has ever bothered going before with his apocalyptic time-travel space collage/montage double-exposures. Wow! It's actually kind of fun. The problem with the rest of it though, and not to name one, is that there's no charm, no redoubtably over-exaggerated sense of self worth in the midst of historic drama, no character who for whatever reason seizes the imagination to the point where you just can't wait to see what it does next, or what happens to it at all. What I'm trying to say is that it didn't have to be this dull. It never should. Nothing ever does. Nap fodder, nap fodder!!
