A KID FOR TWO FARTHINGS (1955) **1/2 Back in the olden days you could make a movie out of some good, ordinary people who were living through things that aren't all that different from the things we all get to live through. It's nice, seeing 'em up on the screen as if it's all worth watching; even though there aren't any vampires or terrorists or addicts of explosions. Of course it takes extraordinary actors to bring out the extraordinary nature of ordinary lives, because we've allowed ourselves to be.we've got all distracted, in so many ways. David Kossoff is really good at it, bringing out the virtue of a battered heart and brain. Joe Robinson does an excellent job of pretending that he doesn't know how to wrestle (he's a third generation international champ) and his bashful moments must have been an inspiration for Stallone. They're all good, the normal regular actors running around the periphery, especially the ones making snider remarks. They're the most entertaining. Ok, so I enjoyed it, I just didn't get de-programmed.
