KISS THEM FOR ME (1957) * It is not wrong to live in fear that you will participate in something as dull as this film, but it is sin to do so. It centers on a series of very dull parties. Jayne Mansfield is expansively repulsive as the sex kitten. When Cary Grant tells Suzy Parker not to say much...it would have been a well taken acting hint. The shallow messages on the horrors of war and the apparently even worse corporate war exploiters are muddled, an accomplishment I suppose at that depth. He's the star, how much is Cary's fault? Some. He was an actor who worked best reacting to someone else, and there's just no one here. What could he do? He just kind of glibly goes on as if anything's going on around him and he's an important part of it. Faced with a similar situation, Antonio Banderas and Sylvester Stallone came off better openly making fun of their own film in Assassins. I guess Mr. Grant was too much of a gentleman for that. Pity, it was the only fertile ground in sight.
