LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS: THE OWLS OF GA'HOOLE (2010) **1/2 One thing about children's stories/movies is that they don't have to be original. As long as you have a good story-and tell it well-you can just put it in a different time or place and it works out fine. This is more derivative than plagiarized, multi-sourced, and it's delivered nicely with the crowning aspect being the inclusion of the cute little owlets. Now, some of the plotline is going to be too much, or disturbing for some old enough to love owlets but too young to stare too long into the darkness, so give it some thought, don't just throw 'em in there and leave the lights off. Of course the Nazis weren't the first to have delusions of grandeur based on presuppositions of genetic superiority, but they were the biggest assholes about it so I imagine most of us are going to spend some time laughing at-or continuing to be outraged by-Nazis, even though there technically aren't any on-screen. Cool characters, I like the warrior/poet.
