THE LITTLE FOXES (1941) **1/2 Bette Davis looks suitably, ghastly, horrifying as an embodiment of the mortal sin Greed on its way to take over America. No, really, that's the plot, kind of. I don't know though, I like people in my Southern dramas to sound more like they're from Philadelphia, Mississippi than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These people just all think they're too good to sound southern. That or no one ever explained how to 'em. So Bette cuts some nice social horror moves, and apocryphal enunciations, but her performance may be even stronger in stills. Teresa Wright and Richard Carlson seem like they might be an interesting couple if it weren't for all those meddling adults. I really like Bette Davis: this is a good movie but I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about.
