THE LOST WORLD (1960) ** Unfortunate neo-sci fi in which none of the actors rises to anywhere near the level of the sets or the monsters. So it's kind of empty, also towards the lowest rung of that existential sense of emptiness. Oh, there are people in it alright.just like Wall Street. Where we're getting inappropriately wannabe intellectual, there are no clues as to why Vitina Marcus would abandon her own people for this lot. Perhaps because the old whitened blind captive is kind, more likely because of her own kind. Neanderthals, a Wall Street turncoat? She was well cast anyway, presumably because of the way her legs appear running from a distance. There are worse reasons to cast someone, at least it's not because she's related to George Bush. Calories burning into art, but not intensive or often or profound enough, except for the sets. Monsters, close. Claude Rains is in it, he's just not as obvious as in The Invisible Man.
