LUCKY YOU (2007) ** I can't really complain. I picked it because I figured that it wouldn't be too demanding, and I figured it would be entertaining, and that's about right. It does have some historical value as the film in which Drew Barrymore sings. Now, to my ears, Drew has one of the all-time beautiful speaking voices. Very poised, sexy California cool. She can say anything. Singing is not necessarily more demanding, but it's different demanding, I can't say that the notes role off as easily as intonations, but she does sound good. Eric Bana kind of has a cool thing going, and if the teenage girls of the world want to turn him into a heartthrob they've done worse. Robert Duvall is tremendous as a poker player with a past, but you'd already know that. Sure an it's not his best work ever or anything, but if you think he's always good, as I do, you'll be impressed anyway. Unfortunately someone thought that after a reasonably entertaining half movie, we'd be enthralled with 45 minutes of super exciting ESPN style poker from what must be one of the dullest rooms in Las Vegas. Call me an unsophisticated heathen if you must, but poker's just never been much of a spectator sport for me. Good musical selections-Springsteen and Dylan-and one or two clunkers. Figures, gamblers just keep on going.
