THE MAN FROM THE DINERS' CLUB (1963) **1/2 Danny Kaye's last starring role, and they have him aping Jerry Lewis. He does it well, mind you, Danny was no slouch at physical humor, but there is a sense that Danny's bumbler doesn't catch all of the heroism of his portrayer. That being out of the way, it' all pretty funny: Telly Savalas and George Kennedy are funny bad guys, and the most sublime computer moments would fit nicely in a (slight) Modern Times . The weird thing is that even though Danny doesn't sing, many of the best moment are his working to musical accompaniment. The man just had that inner rhythm, silence couldn't shut it off. So you have all of these famous guys flamming all over the place, but many of the best moments are delivered by Cara Williams' floozy, her and the beatnik party downstairs. She turned this performance into her own tv show (and got on the cover of TV Guide!), apparently, I've never seen it.
