MONSTER-IN-LAW (2005) *1/2 To be fair, I don't think anyone's idea was to pair Jane Fonda with a contemporary actress of her caliber. The idea must have been more along the lines of pairing her with a contemporary actress of relatively comparable popularity. Jane and Jennifer Lopez in turn offer reasonably good performances. I've seen them both better, Jane stratospheres better, but they're not the problem. The simple silly story partly is, the other actors are a little bit (except for Wanda Sykes, who's great until she keeps doing the same thing over and over)....it's more that it's not all that entertaining in the first place, and is cropped and clipped in a manner that destroys continuity; albeit from several scenes where you appreciate the clip no matter how harsh.
