MOVE OVER, DARLING (1963) **1/2 It's what you would hope for out of a film in which Doris Day has been lost on a desert island and comes home to find that husband James Garner has headed off to honeymoon (and consummate a new marriage!) in Monterey with his vapid and repugnant new bride. It's a near perfect role for her. To improve even that, once the gag has all but entirely lost its allure the writers do a couple full-nelson twists and go so far off the road that you feel bad about questioning the realities of the premise in the first place. Brilliant turns by Don Knotts and John Astin; and Edgar Buchanan as about the best grumbling thing you can expect a judge to turn into after decades being benched, and.why there's just fun abounding for all, darn it! And I mean that! (yes, they do let her sing, but only one time besides the credits)
