MR. AND MRS. SMITH (2005) *** Destined to be remembered for what happened off screen, instead. And that's fine. Destined to be shown longer than movies that are even better, and that's fine too, since what happened off screen is more important than those films, I think. It bears thinking about. For all the inflated largesse that Hollywood put into trying to make Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie seem like the most brilliant and talented and successful characters beyond imagination.they'd already reached such a rarefied professional pinnacle that any role is playing down to them. Given what was happening off screen their chemistry is no surprise, but they really do dance well together. Angelina, sure, I'd expect it. But Brad? They really are a talented couple. As far as the movie, it has no pretensions or ambitions to art. It's a shiny movie's movie. It wants to be entertaining, action paced and romantic. It is. Not at historic levels.it references films far beyond itself, but there's nothing illegal about that and I don't buy any aesthetic argument. No one should be able to reference a great film unless they make a greater one? Stupid. But this movie's smart and-more than that-fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah, lots of people die but there's no blood. Plus anyway they're all either bad people or those who won't think for themselves. It won't make you think too hard but it won't let you think about anything other than itself. Kick back and enjoy the violence.
