MY FATHER THE HERO (1994) *1/2 I refuse to believe that there's anywhere in the Caribbean, at any period in history, where you would be subjected to this ceaseless wave of crappy music. That's what I find unbelievable about the film, other commentators have identified many others. The target group is younger teenage girls, so Katherine Heigl has an extensive wardrobe, a malleable father, and the attention of the requisite bevy of young men. She's credible for a 14 year-old, and they've set her up with very age-appropriate lines. The writers have clearly suffered the phenomenon, and emerged with the appropriate feelings (amazement-tempered fondness, mainly). Gérard Depardieu is that father, and.I can't say that it takes all of his talents to accomplish anything in particular, as they're certainly not all in evidence.and his presence lends the film a certain..not gravitas.not elegance or grandeur, um.definitely not depth, a certain.he keeps the film from entirely going under is what he does. Whatever its.again, not quite qualities.this is potentially a horrible, terrible film. I wouldn't argue with anyone who feels that way anyway, nor feel sorry for them, but I've seen worse ways to eat popcorn.
