POLICE ACADEMY 4: CITIZENS ON PATROL (1987) * I think it's a fair question, and I'll allow it: If I've already seen several other films in the series, and didn't like them, why watch another one? It is, I'm afraid, a better question than the answer I can muster. At least one of them wasn't terrible (I understand that those with more refined sensibilities will vigorously dispute even this, and it's a position I respect more than my own), and I thought David Spade might be good. It's also true that I more often find Mr. Spade annoying (though usually only mildly so) than anything else, but he is also-again, in my opinion-capable of occasional...I say occasional...absolute brilliance. None of which he is here, he's just dull like everything else. The aerial finale isn't awful, but really, it's the kind of film where they can trot out Sharon Stone as the totem of what's most good and wonderful about the world, and she's no less credible than anyone else. There, I've said it.
