RACING STRIPES (2005) ** A baby zebra falls out of a circus truck and ends up talking to all of the farm animals. He decides that he wishes to be a racehorse. This is then strewn across the single most basic Hollywood formula, with the love interest being a jumping horse. There's nothing worse than that and it doesn't pretend to be anything more. It's all inoffensive, really, and enjoyable enough if you're a kid or desperately want it to be. There are some nice bonus bits: Joe Pantoliano's voice imitation of Joe Pesci as Goose the wiseguy pelican, Wendie Malick's fate as the rich bitch Kentucky horsewoman. I wouldn't drop what you're doin' to rush off and see it, but if it's a rainy afternoon and the kids are sick of playing with wooden toys.you know, the footage (it doesn't look like CGI to me) where they match up the animals moving their mouths with the vocals coming out are well done. You could do worse, after all it is an enthusiastic celebration of noncomformity!
