ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL FOREVER (1991) **1/2 Since they've, unfortunately, referenced one of the greatest movies of all time in the title, I guess you have to make some kind of comparison: Where Rock 'n' Roll High School makes an important, insightful and incisive (however severely accidental) and sweeping social statement, this one kind of echoes it, a little. Where the original had great music, this one has some music that's alright. The original had The Ramones . This one has Corey Feldman . The original is great, and this one's pretty fun for the most part. They make fun of a lot of things that deserve it...can you imagine anything greater than a statue of Ronald Reagan on your high school lawn?!!!! Man, the things we could have done to it! That would have been rad. Feldman's always funny, and his self-indulgent mockery of Michael Jackson 's schtick might be worth more attention that anyone will pay to it. There are worse possibilities than Mojo Nixon as the Spirit of Rock 'n' Roll . Yeah there's been a few guys like Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison and Little Richard and Elvis and Larry Kirwan and Jack White...but it never could have gained critical mass if a mess of lesser lights hadn't taken the whole thing to heart. It's a populist thing, rock and roll. It's a movie with the joyful and obnoxious...accessible common denominators in mind. I like it.
