LE SCIENCE DES RÊVES (2006) **1/2 I like this movie. I would like it even if I didn't like it. I like French surrealists who aren't even sure if they're French. I automatically like anyone who starts out by throwing out plot, cinematic convention, formula and cliché, or...even better....never even noticed them in the first place. I like how it goes all over the place, much of the time, more than enough to justify the approach. I like the multi-multi-multi media approach but don't know enough about it other than to say that they out Wallace & Grommit Wallace & Grommit. But I like the cardboard cars the best. I think that there's more to the dream recipe than they're willing to let on, but that's kind of the same sort of criticism as throwing out the science of astronomy because you think there's a star they haven't found. I was so hoping that the final scene was the final scene-and in a film with no apparent interest in resolution it can be difficult to predict-because it's such a beautiful scene.
