THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH (1955) * Yet another lame Billy Wilder alleged comedy. It's not funny, it's stupid. It's not stupid enough to be funny, though it is even dumber than Some Like It Hot . It's mildly amusing to consider that it finds itself clever, but only in passing and not for one hundred and five minutes. There are many commendable things about Marilyn Monroe, but she was neither a beauty nor a talented actress. She was a bright person, a good and honest one, I believe, but none of that comes out here. Joe Dimaggio was right to be mad about this film, if he had to sit through the entire thing. It makes New Yorkers look bad. I had no idea that there were such boring people in New York.
