THE SHAGGY DOG (2006) ** I actually read one critic who didn't like the premise-man turns into dog. Well, why not? Tim Allen makes for a very fine hound, quite credibly biting and scratching himself, running on all fours, eating with his snout, etc. Well done. What makes the premise slightly more credible is that Robert Downey Jr., as a human , is even weirder . Think about that! So Tim takes most of the air time and does well with it, so long as you are willing to work through several extended dead plots in the action. Downey reminds that he is one of the most talented men in a town chock full o' talented men. It is difficult if not impossible to think of any actor who might have done as much with the role. Kristin Davis establishes herself as serious good mom/wife for future bookings though it must be said that even at age 41 she doesn't look nearly old enough to have a teenage daughter. Actually, that was probably the most unbelievable part of the entire film. Tim works very well around the admissibility of evidence difficulties that I'd imagined, so there's an argument to be made that he's just as good a lawyer as a dog. And he's a good dog.
