SIMPLY IRRISISTIBLE (1999) ½* Simply awful. If you're going to promote something as a magic crab movie, you should at least have the dumb animal do something! Sarah Michelle Gellar manifests her usual awkwardness but none of her occasional charm as a chef who incessantly plays with her hair and then sticks her hands in the food. It usually takes a modicum of talent, inverted and cannibalizing itself in the cause of banality (think Jim Carrey, Charles Grodin) to induce historical levels of nausea, but Sean Patrick Flanery achieves it without any apparent skills or characteristics at all. They were trying for corny romantic sop, but unable to reach it with actors evoking nothing unrelated to contempt.
