SLEEP MY LOVE (1948) **1/2 NYC film noire with Claudette Colbert in the middle of it, but surrounded by better actors. Could go a bunch of different ways, and generally goes some preferable ones. There doesn't appear to be any big secret, but sometimes it's probably going to be enough just to resolve prominent and prematurely revealed and relatively interesting loose threads. When? Oh, I don't know...say when Rita Johnson is the femme fatale , Don Ameche the elegant louse, Raymond Burr is looking into it and Robert Cummings is the knight in shining armor. Times like that, maybe. Great opening train shot-Douglas Sirk uses trains well throughout-for opening train shot enthusiasts, like myself.
