SMOKY (1946) ** Remember when there were cowboy and his horse movies, and cowboy and his horse books, cowboy and his horse culture...? Horses were damn near as close to the collective soul of humans as dogs, then. The position was probably undeserved, but we're missing something by dismissing the critters entirely. They helped us roam the range, they helped us...there was a lot more freedom in a lot of ways, then. Yep, this is one of those. Not a bad one, either. Yea for Fred MacMurray, yea for Smoky! I enjoyed all of the musical interludes, mainly because Burl Ives was cool, beyond that because Burl Ives was Burl Ives.
